locales was already installed but I ran dpkg-reconfigure locales to set up the four locales: de_DE.UTF-8, de_CH.UTF-8, en_GB.UTF-8 and en_US.UTF-8. This avoids locale related warnings when running Perl and other programs if your local shell has locales set that the remote doesn’t have configured.
