How to create a new game

Start by creating a link to the game:

1. visit [Grenzland Games];
2. edit the page (log in using your Grenzland username and password);
3. add a link to an index page in a directory.

Example:

- [My game](my-game/index)

Save the page.

If you follow that link, you’re now in your own directory, with your own copy of the “Changes” page, and so on.

Edit your page and set a title and some links:

# My game

This is an open table. Contact: [My name](../my-name).

## Characters

- [One character](one-character)
- [Another character](another-character)

## Locations

- [One location](one-location)
- [Another location](another-location)

The first link goes back up, out of your game directory. All the other links stay in your directory.

Keeping everything in a single directory is recommended because each directory can have its own set of templates. Having many directories means that you have to remember to copy your templates everywhere because the templates are only inherited from the top level, not from any of the directories in between.

Styling, header, footer

You can change the templates for your directory. The most important one to change is the “view.html” template:

1. save view.html;
2. edit it locally with a text editor or Notepad;
3. go back to a page of your wiki;
4. upload the file, using view.html as the filename.

Files

If you’re more comfortable using the terminal, open a secure shell on grenzland.club and read the wiki(7) manual page:

man wiki

You should find your files in /var/local/oddmu/my-game/.

You can create new Markdown files, here. If you want to update changes.md:

oddmu notify your-new-page.md

You can copy all the templates into your directory:

cp --interactive /var/local/oddmu/*.html /var/local/oddmu/my-game/

Permissions

Make sure Oddmu can read and write the files you create on the command line. The files should have the users group and be both readable and writable by the group.

Your directory should have the users group and have the GUID bit set:

The files you create yourself are owned by you. In the example, that would be me, alex, your faithful author. This is not a problem since the wiki has the users group.
